Growing Up! (or bitching about other people's bad habits) Part 1

Never buy a house with "Extra Space for Storage". If you don't have a clear reason for the storage space (ie, seasonal sports equipment that you use more than once ever other year) then you do not need "Extra" storage space. All it encourages is packrat/hoarding behavior. If you haven't used it in the last year then you don't need it. I don't care if your great-great-grandmother hauled it over from the old country, if it doesn't fit in the living space of your house then nine times out of ten all it will be condo space for rodents or cockroaches. What's the point in that!

It can seem hard to get rid of things but in this day and age we all have way too much! And it costs more to store it or repair it after it's been damaged by little teeth. Especially massed produced, cheap ass shit you bought at a big box store! Get rid of it! The 13yr old in Thailand doesn't care whether you kept it or not. He doesn't think that table leg he cut for you is a piece of art and he'll never see you cause he probably will die of a disease that we haven't heard of.

I admit I'm unsympathetic. I'll admit I'm thrifty and don't have many "nice" pieces of great furniture. But I like most of what I have, I'll only move the things I like (if we ever relocate) and I hope the rest of my furniture finds a nice home where it will be appreciated as a great holder of some important object for a really cheap price (usually free cause I get tired of trying to sell things.)

Oh, and stop throwing paperwork into a box and putting it into the corner. We're all too old for that shit. You have to face the music sometime. If you don't like bills then move to the rainforests and cut yourself off from the rest of "civilized society." I don't agree with our entire societal structure but I live within it and most days that means dealing with paperwork and bureaucracy in order to live in a world where I have an ipod, skype, netflix, running water, consistent electricity supplied to my home, a roof over my head that doesn't leak and that I didn't construct, and (currently my favorite) the ability to travel from one side of the country to the other in less than 12hrs.
