Thank you sane friends and family for turning out to BEAT GLEN BECK AND THAT ILLITERATE S.P. WOMAN (whom I would prefer to forget exists in the world.) Though this only concretely proves that we all had more free time this weekend, I like to also think that it shows we're more likely to turn out for something we believe in instead of paying money to have someone else do it.
According to CBS News, 215,000 people showed up for the rally on Saturday...
Canada's CTV, meanwhile, wrote that 250,000 people were estimated to have partaken...
...the Parks Service approximated that "well over 200,000" attended Saturday's rally.

So, I wanted to scan and post the letter that I received from Lindt but of course I can't find it.
About 5 days after I sent them the note, you can find it below, we were about to leave for dinner with Kathryn when there was a knock at the door. The UPS guy was standing there with a box... for me... unexpectedly! The best presents are completely unexpected. So I opened it up and there was a lovely letter, very clearly referencing my note to the Lindt customer service, apologizing for changing the recipe for the 70% Excellence but assuring me that their research with consumers shows that the general population prefers the new recipe. There were also two chocolate bars, a 85% and a 90%, full size, no snarky little snack size. A lovely sentiment.
I like Lindt, I understand they're a business... but I'm gonna stop buying their Excellence bars cause the 85% is too bitter for me to snack on regularly, at least by itself. I admit I am not a member of the general population, I'm picky, I speak up, and I like what I like. I don't like the new Excellence 70% recipe, I will stop eating Lindt regularly as soon as my supply has dwindled to nothing. I'm considering applying for a local specialty chocolate store, don't even know if they're hiring.
But... Lindt seems to be a very nice company and their customer service is a delight.

My world crumbled a bit today
Moments ago I sent this to the Customer Service link at Lindtusa.com
"Complaint:
You may have just lost me as a customer. I have enjoyed the Excellence 70% & 85% bars for years averaging 3 a week for the last 3 years alone. However, I just bought a few 70% bars labeled New Recipe to find that you've added Soy Lecithin and messed with the bar. I'm disappointed. You were my daily go to snack and addiction. I love other chocolates but I've been loyal to you.
Thanks for the years. Hope you go back to the old recipe.

If anyone in the Sacramento area finds a stash of Lindt 70% Excellence bars that don't contain Soy Lecithin (no red triangle on the front of the box that says "New Recipe") then please let me know... I'm not ready for this much change in my life right now.

P.S.
I am crotchety. But it's because I don't understand. I want a world where we all think about our actions and each other. Cause the apes still kill each other over food and women. I don't wanna be an ape, even when they're acting cute.

I've been contemplating a blog and I finally had the morning that pushed me over the edge.
The City of Stockton California was forced to pull all of their Paramedic equipment off of their fire engines today. The reason, not budget, not lack of paramedics, but because San Joaquin County (where Stockton resides) has control over the EMS program for the entire county and decided 4 years ago to go with the private American Medical Response (AMR.) The contract(s) along the line, between the city and the county, the county and AMR, and theoretically the county and the state have somehow overridden all common sense. A County Superior Court Judge has ruled that the County has control of the EMS system and they've contracted with AMR and therefore the Fire Department cannot provide Advanced Live Support services because they are not the designated provider for the county.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
We aren't talking about the city and county trying to save money, no mention of that in any report I can find. We aren't talking about a lack of professional conduct from the Fire Department Paramedics, their integrity doesn't seem to be in question. Sooooo this is Politics. Right? I mean, what else could it be? The mission of any paramedic, private or publicly paid, should be to save lives. So why would the Stockton Fire Department and AMR be fighting. Of course there is always the macho one upsmanship that happens in any "Hero" situation, I'm sure some of that comes into play. It's very evident on several discussion boards (that I of course can't find the links to now) that some of that comes into play, but it shouldn't for the politicians that make these decisions.
1. The paramedics are already trained and part of the fire crews.
2. The equipment has already been purchased and budgeted for the future.
3. Yes, the Firemen with Paramedic certification do get a bump in pay.
4. The city has not complained about the budget.
5. AMR was given all transportation duties of the injured shortly after the contract was put in place, so they still get to bill for every call.
6. 73% of 911 calls where the Fire Department is dispatched, the Fire Engine arrives before the ambulance.
Shouldn't this be about saving lives and not about AMR's bottom line. That is the purpose of the Emergency Medical Service that the county is supposed to provide, saving lives. So what if someone else spends different money on the same issue. Are we not gonna donate to cancer research because someone we don't like gave money as well?
